Publicly available data about online cartographic records and materials at the Library of Congress's loc.gov. All data can also be found in this site's GitHub repo. Made with the loc.gov API, GitHub pages and actions, Vue.js, Liquid, and Plotly.js. Code and documentation on GitHub.
Definitions
- Object
- An object is anything presented on loc.gov with a URL beginning
https://www.loc.gov/item/. An object could be a map set or volume with hundreds or even thousands of map sheets, or it could be a single map. - Online
- Items where
digitized:true. Includes digitized materials, webpages, finding aids, e-resources, other online resources. Example search (all online materials from LOC): https://www.loc.gov/search/?fa=digitized:true - Not online
- Items where
digitized:false. Includes links to catalog and other descriptive records (other than finding aids) but objects themselves aren't online. Example search (all not online materials from LOC): https://www.loc.gov/search/?fa=digitized:false - GMD.MAR
- Items where
group:gmd.mar. GMD.MAR is a grouping for internal processing purposes. It holds all online materials from LOC's Geography and Map Division that are not otherwise held in another processing group. Note that these materials may not necessarily be maps. All GMD.MAR items are online. Example search (all GMD.MAR materials): https://www.loc.gov/search/?sq=group:gmd.mar. - Maps
- Items where
original-format:map. Example search (all maps from LOC): https://www.loc.gov/search/?fa=original-format:map, equivalent to https://www.loc.gov/maps - Sanborns

partof:sanborn. Example search (all Sanborns): https://www.loc.gov/collections/sanborn-maps/, equivalent to https://www.loc.gov/search/?fa=partof:sanborn maps
